Brussels: Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy has been nominated as the President of European Council. Two new posts have been created by European Union Lisbon Treaty. One is President of EU and another is High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
Herman Van Rompuy was elected the 1st permanent President of the 27-member European Council while Baroness Ashton was nominated for High Representative of Foreign Affairs.
Former Prime minister Tony Blair was also in this race, he was supported by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown later he withdrawn his support and proposed Baroness Ashton for the post of High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
Herman Van Rompuy well known as a economist and writer, he is key supporter of the integration of the European nations.
