Marxist leader Jyoti Basu’s condition is critical and deteriorated further on Friday as he shown signs of multi-organ failure.

Veteran Marxist leader is put on ventilator support. His lungs, renal and cardiac is not functioning properly. His blood pressure is being maintained through medicine, pumping of heart is not adequate and the dialysis is still on.

Basu was admitted to hospital after a pneumonia attack in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU).

He was born in 1914 in Kolkata, he became chief minister of West Bengal in June 1977.
