WASHINGTON —Patrick Kennedy, son of the late senator Edward Kennedy who was the last Kennedy to serve in Congress has decided not to run election after his term expires.
“Having spent two decades in politics, my life has taken a new direction, and I will not be a candidate for re-election this year,” the 42-year-old Kennedy said in a video message, posted on the YouTube website
Patrick Kennedy, 42, was elected to the House in 1994.
He has been in and out of treatment since he was involved in a car crash outside the Capitol in 2006 while under the influence of prescription drugs.
