Kolkata: Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath hospitalised in a AMRI hospital, south Kolkata with chest infection. Chatterjee was admitted to hospital on Saturday with fever, cough and cold under the treatment of chest specialist Subhasish Ghosh.
He was Lok Sabha Speaker from 2004 to 2009. He was expelled from the Communist Party of India-Marxist as he refused to step down from his Speaker’s post after CPI-M withdrew outside support to the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government over the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.
