Addressing the summit, the PM stressed that parties to Kyoto Protocol should deliver on their commitments for emission cuts.

Manmohan Singh met Chinese premier Wen Jiabao to salvage the talks. During the half-an- hour meeting, the Chinese premier told Singh that an ‘umbrella paragraph’ had been added in the final political document which was objectionable, according to an official who knew about the meeting. The content of the paragraph was not immediately known. The paragraph was added last night at a meeting of some nations to which India and China were not invited.

“It would go against international public opinion if we succumb in its replacement by a new and weaker set of commitments,” Singh said.

“Each one of us gathered here today acknowledges that those most affected by climate change are the least responsible for it,” Singh said.

“Global warming is the most important issue and India is worst-affected by this. India will cut emissions regardless of summit outcome. Also, the country will produce 20,000 MW solar energy by 2022″, he assured the Summit
